James Malphurs Biography

James Malphurs was born in New York and grew up in Virginia, Florida, Georgia and New York. James graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point as a Distinguished Cadet in 1996, earning a Bachelor of Science and a commission as an active duty Armor Officer. James served as tank platoon leader and company executive officer in C Co., 1st Battalion, 32nd Armor Regiment (Elvis Presley’s own) 2nd Infantry Division. Captain Malphurs fulfilled his Army commitment as Adjutant of 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry — the Army’s first reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition squadron in the Stryker Brigade — and was honorably discharged at Fort Lewis, Washington in 2001. James’ military awards and decorations include the Army Parachutist Badge (Airborne); Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award); National Defense Service Medal; and Army Service Ribbon.

James studied law at the University of Florida, Levin College of Law, earning his Juris Doctor cum laude and admittance to the Florida Bar in 2009. James has extensive hands-on civil litigation experience, including class action, legal malpractice, mass tort, insurance bad-faith, multi-district litigation, intellectual property and antitrust. James’ practice includes providing litigation support for mass tort cases including client relations, discovery and trial preparation, document collection and hosting, document review team management and custom case tracking tools. James’ current projects include helping victims of wildfires and volcanic eruption recover from bad faith insurers and other tortfeasors. James’ practice is plaintiff-centric and people-focused. James is grateful to currently serve alongside Mr. Harry Blalock and Mr. Kirk Wood at Blalock LLC, helping veterans and their families recover for cancer and other serious illnesses caused by exposure to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in accordance with the Camp Lejeune Justice Act

When not practicing law, James practices yoga and meditation, art and music in Danville, Virginia.
